The Port Caroline campsite is an ideal starting point to discover the castles of the Loire, witnesses of the fundamental chapters of the History of France. You can take a day or more to go out with your family and discover its majestic architecture, renowned throughout the world, its well-tended gardens and the treasures they contain.

The castles of Chambord, Chenonceau, Sully-sur-Loire, Angers or the Dukes of Brittany in Nantes are just a few minutes away. You can discover the 22 castles and great sites of the Loire Valley, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.

There are many ways to admire their exceptional beauty, exterior and interior visits of the castles, hot air balloon flights, hikes along the marked trails, boat rides or cruises on the Loire… to each his own.

Our campsite is also equipped with a heated swimming pool, open from April to September. After touring the Loire Valley and its remarkable sites, you can relax in the covered pool heated to 27°C and forget the fatigue of the day thanks to the benefits of the hydromassage jets.

Tourism Loire castles

Visiting the castles of the Loire Valley is one of the great classics of travel in the Loire Valley if not in France. These majestic palaces line the river and recall the great facts of French history. Among the most exceptional and unmissable are those of Chambord, Chenonceau, Amboise with the royal castle and the castle of Clos Lucé, Azay-le-Rideau, Chinon, Loches…

Which ones to visit during your vacation at campsite le Port de Caroline? About 20 minutes away, you can visit the castle of Angers, a vast medieval fortress remarkable for its seventeen towers, built in the 13th century. Today it bears the traces of the different eras. It allows visitors to admire the residential buildings and gardens but also the very famous Apocalypse hanging, a major work of medieval tapestry.

The castle of Saumur is only 40 minutes away from the campsite. Built since the end of the eleventh century, it is located on the historic route of the Valley of the Kings. It was successively used as a fortress, a residence of pleasure, a residence of the governors of the city, a prison, then a depot of weapons and ammunition. The castle of Brissac, 20 minutes to the south, the actual residence of the thirteenth duke of Brissac, its surprising architecture, its massive towers and fortified basements and its romantic park await you.

One hour and 40 minutes to the west, you will also discover the magnificent castle of Chenonceau, also nicknamed “the ladies’ castle”. It was the homes of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medicis. It impresses with its majestic arch over the Cher River and its beautiful gardens.

Continuing westward, you can visit the castles of Blois and Chambord. The royal castle of Blois, with its medieval, classical, gothic and renaissance architecture, is a summary of the history of French architecture. Here you will find the famous spiral staircase in an open tower.

Built at the request of François I, the castle of Chambord is the largest of the Loire castles. It has 426 rooms and its facade is spectacular with its hundreds of chimneys and richly carved capitals. It houses a huge enclosed forest park, the largest hunting reserve in Europe.

Other castles such as Cheverny with its superb interior and furniture; Chaumont-sur-Loire with its sublime gardens; Amboise with its numerous terraced gardens and its magnificent panoramas over the Loire Valley and many others are also worth a visit.
